Old Betty

Lots of bloggers are posting old photos on Wednesday so I thought I would too.

These pictures are of a pony we had named Betty. My first daughter got for a Christmas present when she was 4. She had already been riding the horses but I figured if she was going to fall then a pony was already closer to the ground.

The quality of these pics isn't very good but I am sure you can see them well enough.

Betty was the very best pony. You could walk all over her, under her and she was gentle and patient. She was a dandy baby sitter and a playmate for my kids. . All my kids learned to ride on her. As you can see, even a baby was safe on here. I have a picture somewhere of my youngest--sitting on the front porch, holding onto Betty's reins and my daughter is sound asleep. Betty just stood there waiting patiently. We had her at least 11 years. She died in her pasture.

Oddly enough, my eldest isn't in any of these pics. I dunno why!! MB

Those really are so darned cute. Maybe tomorrow I'll take another chance on showing what dorks little boys are. I have several shots of me with horses and ponys at my Aunt's in Spokane, and yep complete with cowboy hat and boots. Yeeeeehawww!

So did Betty ever grow out of being a pony? Or is a pony simply a small horse? I'm showing my country ignorance here, MB. Forgive me {smile}

These are dear pictures and Betty was an amazing companion who I'm certain is still remembered with tenderness by all who knew her.

Reminds me of my Shetland which was not nearly so gentle. It dumped me in a cactus, after which I never rode it again.

What great pictures. I don't think you could find a better companion for the girls than Betty. I hope you'll show us more of your old pictures.

Even without your words, you can see the gentleness of this sweet pony. Our lives are so much richer when we share them with animals, aren't they? Rest in peace, gentle Betty!

These photos and memories are delightful MB. Glad to hear you had good luck with your pony. We tried a POA that was an obnoxious, stuburn sob. Our kids soon lost interest.

What a great pony! Every child's dream come true!

I still have our daughter's pony -- a POA named Cody. He is now about 22 years old and still doing pretty good. He does not walk as well as he used to but he eats just as good - heh!

I have a friend who had a pony that lived close to 40 years! They are incredible.
