The Backside of Baker

Usually we see Mt.Baker from the west looking east but we decided to skirt the lady and see what she looks like from the other side.
We are up about 4500ft standing on a ridge looking across to the mountain.  The second picture shows where we are.  That is Baker lake looking way down.

And a picture of our usual sight of the mountain.

see the bite out of Baker is on the opposite side as are the smaller humps.  Looks way different, I think.  Funny, huh!

More shots of not finding Mt. Baker

See the boiling clouds--Mt. Baker is hiding in there somewhere.

Here are some more pics of out road trip to find Mt. Baker.  Mt. Baker ski area is about 85 miles from my house.
The road further up Heather Meadows was closed but had been plowed so we traipsed up to the ranger station, maybe a mile, we could go no further because there the road was covered in major snow.  So no close-up pics of Mt. Baker 10,000 plus ft.  We are on her flanks.

Mt. Shuksan and Picture Lake On the way to Mt.Baker

Remember back on June 4th I posted a picture of Mt.
Shuksan and Picture Lake only the Lake was still under 20 feet of snow.  So last Sunday we went up to Mt. Baker and on the way we did get a picture of Mt. Shuksan reflected in the Lake.  The ice is still melting and the road closer to Baker, Heather Meadows and Artist Point are closed and still covered with tons of snow.
It was a perfect day--blue sky, sunshine (70s) and puffy white clouds for contrast.
More pics tomorrow----or at least next posting.  MB

Historic barn for Barn Charm

The Crockett Family was one of the first to settle on the fertile prairies of Whidbey Island back in the mid 1800's. This barn sits high atop the bluffs of Ebey's Landing on the edge's of the prairie and was built by the family in 1895.
You can see the date on the sign on the barn.
