CDP Theme~~~Take away Store~~~~~~for August 1st

In my non-thinking phase that I am in I couldn't grasp what a 'take away store' was or is.  So in my maniacal mind I thought of this:

 They take it away---they put it away---but we keep feeding it every week.

 Finally a blogging friend explained exactly what the phrase meant.  I think I'm ok.

The Fair is coming to Town

 The Fair is one of the largest Community Fairs in the U.S.-----Not state or county just the community.  A nice honor.

 This is the building where the adult photography, crafts, paintings ,produce etc goes.

 Where we took our pictures.  You are allowed two photographs--any size mounted or framed.  We each entered two.

 The grounds are getting packed with "stuff".

 I loved the title of this food cart.

 I brought one of the ladies a Chocolate Sunflowers because she had not ever seen one or even knew they existed.
The 4-H and FFA kids and animals will show up probably Thursday or Friday morning.  It will be a jam-packed busy place come Friday afternoon.  It is 3 days of fun with animals, carnival, entertainment, old tractors and new too.  A threshing Bee with old time equipment----just a good time for everyone.

Bob and I entered  some Garlic too.  The are huge and beautiful and smell so good.

I will post the pictures we entered after the fair.  I wanted to enter this Eagle I took last week or so .  I had a hard decision and opted to show another.

Wilson's warbler~~~~~~Wild Bird Wednesday

I saw this bird one day last week flitting about the deck.  It didn't land on any of the bird feeders.  It looked in the windows and the back door and just stayed around the deck.  I grabbed some pictures of it----mostly blurry---it would not be still.  It flew off and I have not seen it since.  

 Isn't he cute?  He looks like he is wearing a Yarmulke.

I looked it up and I believe it is a Wilson's Warbler.

 It zips through foliage at varying heights feeding mostly on insects.

Wilson's Warbler and four other American bird species are named for pioneering ornithologist Alexander Wilson.

A touch of Pink~~~~~~~~~Ruby Tuesday too

Stonecrop Sedum~~Autumn Joy

This sturdy perennial is as tough as they come. Clumping foliage displays large, plate-like flower clusters that start pink, then gracefully age to rosy russet in the fall. Seed heads add unique winter interest. A fine addition to the rock garden or mixed border. Butterfly friendly!  Bees love them too!
I have a huge clump of these beauties.  Great winter interest.

Almost August----Almost Unbelievable!

Grand Coulee Sky~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Sky Watch

 Sky through the gazebo

 Grand Coulee Dam was finished in 1941 and was the world's largest concrete structure and still is today.  The Dam brought electricity to Eastern Washington---a God-send.  Irrigation began in the early 1950s.

On the Beach

We went to the beach not too far from the house to have a picnic.  Hardly anybody was there and we had the whole place to ourselves.  Now most of the beaches out here are full of driftwood and also rocky.  The ocean has sandy beaches.  We are on Saratoga Passage and it is a salt water beach.  We parked near a lone tree.  I happened to look up and guess who was watching us.

 Just call him 'ol Steely eye. 

 He was keeping an eye on us or maybe hoping we had a nice morsel of food for him

 A lone tree with a forest in the background.  We saw another Eagle in the forest maybe it's mate.

 All of a sudden he took off---I wasn't ready so we got blur---he's a biggun.

We found this abandoned little boat but it made a nice photo-op near sunset.

Boats and more Boats

I'm Baa-ack!

 We went camping and fishing at Neah Bay on the Makah Nation Reservation. Great place to go.  Wonderful people, great fishing and lots of fun.   Neah Bay is the most North Westerly tip of the state of Washington and the U.S. too.  The lower 48 that is---thanks Elaine.

 Nice marina.  The Makah's are great fishermen/women and loggers.

 Out we go to meet the ocean---it was very foggy and rough.  We fished in the Ocean and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

 A nice Coho that was dinner later on that night
