Decoration Day

Years ago Memorial Day was called Decoration Day.  It started during the Civil War or even before.  It was a Southern tradition to decorate graves of the fallen.  Became an official holiday as Memorial in 1971.

We went to decorate Dave's grave

I love Clouds

We have been have some really nice weather---except we really do need some rain.  We are in a drought and are hauling water---but I digress--I love clouds and here are some from yesterday.

I eas outside around 4pm when looking west I saw these beautiful clouds back lit by the sun.  Took the pic with my phone and ran in the house to get my camera and of course all was changed.

The clouds moved and the suns hiding place was gone---still pretty though.
Later that afternoon just before Sunset I saw Golden hour looking East.  I liked what I saw.

Signs

This memorial in not far from us just down the road by the Rexville Store.   It is a wonderful memorial to the bikers.   It used to up north a bit but the restaurant it was near was for sale so it moved to Rexville.

Daughter's Dogs

Here is a shot of Gus (white) and Monk short for Monkey.   A lady didn't want these dogs anymore and just wanted to get rid of them so one of my daughters said 'ok, i'll take them.  They fit right in with the other 4 dogs.  Here they are playing with each other.

And of course we all love Jacky

Happy Mother's Day

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THOSE MAMAS OUT THERE

Happy Mother's Day to my Mother smiling down on me from her Heavenly home.

She left us almost 10 years ago at age 95.  She decided she had been here long enough.  All her friends were gone and she could no longer do the things she once could.  She was of sound mind, body and spirit. She lived by herself in Langley on Whidbey Island.  She was a funny, sassy lady.  I Miss Her.

Silly girl---aged 16

On her 95th birthday.

She was a wonderful lady who loved us all

Wednesday Sky

It was a nice, work outdoors, type of day yesterday.  We got all our tomatoes in the ground.  The sky was unusual during the day and then into the evening.

7am We have a ring around the sun---pretty cool.  Also known a a 22 degree halo or Sun halo, the ring is caused by sunlight passing through ice crystals within the Earth's atmosphere.

Then later that early evening the sun was barely seen through the different looking clouds.

Signs2

The other day while I was in Stanwood I wanted to check out a farm that was for sale years ago .  Was just wondering if it was still a farm or maybe---heavens no---a development of some sort.   Thankfully it is still a farm

Monday Morning Mosaic

Spring is slowly turning into Summer.  We are in kind of a drought here--already.  I am hoping for rain but for now here are some goodbye Spring mosaics.

The Snow Geese and Trumpeter Swan have left their Winter quarters--here in Skagit and Stanwood Valleys.  Returning to their breeding grounds way up North---Wrangle Island and Siberia

The Tulips grown in the Valley have bid farewell too.  To have all the growth energy going to the Tulip bulb the plants are topped at a certain time.  The bulbs are then dug up in September.  They are sold world-wide.
