Hopefully

The Stillaguamish River traverses the southern border of Stanwood moving west across the Stilly Valley farmland detours itself into Hat Slough and dumps into Port Susan Bay while the old channel continues on across the west end of Stanwood and empties into Skagit Bay

Rain comes Down--Rivers go up

While some rivers here were tragically flooding---threatening life and limb---the same rivers closer to me were up and over but up closer to the mountains it was worse.  The Upper Skagit was raging and houses built too close were falling--pastures with livestock were underwater---those we couldn't get too.  The whole small town of Sylvana right next to Stanwood was under water so all the roads were closed.
This is the boat launch parking area on the Skagit River at Conway

The water has gone down a bit today but up river on the Skagit is still a mess

In the old Corn Field

The Trumpeter Swan winters in our Valleys--both Skagit and the Stillaguamish (Stilly) Valleys from their nesting grounds in Alaska.  They love to take over the the harvested corn fields.  These Swan one does not see regaling coasting along on water but greedily eating their weight in golden corn.

SKY!

Nasty rainy cloudy day.
The clouds were hanging in the hills
Low visibility it is called--or actually no visibility

We did have a little clearing---some sun and some misty rain and what comes next but a rainbow
And later the Moon showed up

Skykomish Hotel

The town of Skykomish is on state highway 2 on the way to Stevens Pass to cross over the Cascade Mountains.    This hotel is no longer open but it is a treasure indeed.
In fact the town of Skykomish is a real treasure

The bridge into the town

D.J. Manning built the Skykomish Hotel in 1904 at a cost $10,000, a “fine four story hotel…plastered throughout and neatly and comfortably fitted and finished” …an early promotional article in Coast Magazine shortly after the Hotel was built called it “excellent accommodations for those visiting the place to enjoy the magnificent fishing and hunting.”I ate in this hotel when it was open about 20 yrs ago when it  had a wonderful restaurant on the lower level
This is the old grade school---

skykomish population is 198

Ourdoor Wednesday

We have had 3 days of wind and rain--lots of rain.  Of course rain here means snow in the mountains which also means the ski resorts will be open starting tomorrow.  Skiers and snowboarders are cheering.  I think I have to get outside today rain or not.  Boo hiss!  Things to do.  I have been organizing the green house while Bob has been running water and electricity to the shed, chicken house and greenhouse.  No more cords all over the place.  Digging ditches in the rain is no fun but it is almost done.
The fields are wet but the Trumpeter Swan are loving it
