Memorial Day

Monday is the day we honor our fallen military heroes  It started out in the Civil War to honor the fallen who were unknown or now able to be sent home..
At that time it was called decoration day because it was time to decorate the graves of the fallen.
It was changed to Memorial Day to honor all fallen vets not just civil war era vets.
So everybody have a nice time on Memorial Day but remember to take time to Honor the fallen.  They deserve it

Early Morning Clouds

Tuesday 6:19
 Wednesday 6:15
Thursday at 6:15 and then again at 7:00 when the sun is up
I like looking at the different cloud forms and these shots are from just about the same spot every morning.  The last one I took Thursday morning the sun was shining and it was pouring rain.  It did turn out to be a beautiful sunny day though

Share the road

It seems all the farmers are out now---you know the old saying "make hay while the sun shines"--well better to work in the sun than the rain.
This sign is just down the road from here
We were behind this fellow and off he went to make dust---that's what farmers do ya know
This guy really making hay while the sun shines---or silage
 Which these girls LOVE!

Fergie

This 1953 Ferguson Tractor is a workaholic.  She takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'

She has that dandy bucket that gets LOTS of use.  She also pulls a bush hog through the tall grass in the pastures~~~she does so much.

We call her FERGIE

Horses

Saturday we went to Lynden Wa. up near the Canadian Border about 55 miles from my home to watch the Draft Horse Plowing Contest.
The International Horse Plowing Contest is held every year and has been since 1942.  Back then it was held in April in fields donated by farmers so they could get their crops in.
In 1982 it moved to the Fair grounds in Lynden and then in 2010 it moved to Berthusen Park in West Lynden.  A beautiful place.
 Aren't these Gentle giants gorgeous

 I loved this red plow
We got there before the plowing even started so it was fun to watch the first furrow
It is International because contestants come from Canada too.  The Canadian plows are different than American plows so they are in a different category. This is a Canadian plow.   Interesting eh?

I found this interesting :  The left hand horse is walking on the unplowed ground--the farmer in walking in the new furrow and the right horse is walking on the old furrow.  So they really are on different levels and yet can plow a straight line.
Today the newer tractors are using GPS to plow a straight row all by the tractor's self.  Look ma, no hands.
I made a video but still cannot upload it---oh well
I tried the video again and it loaded but at the top and that is ok because at least I DID IT!

Pigeon

It's a Band Tailed Pigeon.  I had never seen one before and all of a sudden it was looking at the bird feeders.  The next day he/she brought another one to stare at the feeders.  They never tried to use the feeders or scare the other birds.  Next day there were 4 and then I saw a bunch in the neighboting trees and now they have moved on.
We have lots of pigeons on the lamp posts on the overpass by the freeway---it is close to the grain mill.  Those pigeons are Rock Pigeons not this one.  Rock Pigeons are the kind you see in the city---City Pigeons
Anyway I kinda like this quiet bird----and he never got any feed
