Eagles in the Stilly Valley

Stanwood sits above the Stilliguamish Valley and the same name river cuts Stanwood off from Camano Island.  A land bridge connects the two.
Eagles like to hang around there
Several fancy older houses in the Valley too
Martha and Fred talking things over
I have taken over says Milton
See my nice roof says Janet
Took this picture earlier in the Spring.  Now the leaves are out and the nest is hidden.  This nest is right on Norman Rd.
Not the best pics but anytime ya see an Eagle it is wonderment

My Grandpa

A treasure to me.  My grandfather--my Mother's father, was a Seattle fireman. He is the one driving the horses.   I never met him.  I think he died in the early 1940s---a heart attack on a train.  And that is all I know.

Decoration Day

Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, the head of an organization of Union veterans — the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) — established Decoration Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers.

It was originally called Decoration Day. To honor the deceased, soldiers would decorate graves of their fallen comrades with flowers, flags and wreaths. HenceDecoration Day. Although Memorial Day became its official title in the 1880s, the holiday wouldn't legally become Memorial Day until 1967.

Have a Happy and Safe Memorial Day and while you are having fun remember the Fallen

Mt. Rainier.....

.....and me.
I could sau the mountain was/is mine----I can see it from my deck---well when it is out anyway.  My good friend Deena was told by her Mother when D was a small child that it was her mountain so I have to give it up to her.  But she did let me know that Mt. Baker could be mine.  Whew!  I am so glad.  LOL

This is Rainier from the deck..........
......and here she is reflected in the window---

Mosaic Monday time and I found a couple to post

I have been away because my computer has been outa whack.  First it said I was off line and no matter what I did I could not get anywhere.   And then I discovered my C drive was almost full and by deleting a lot of photos and trying to put stuff on a thumb drive I did ease up some space and now I can get online but everything is so so slow.  Very maddening.  This is a new computer full of terabits everywhere.  I am so frustrated but I will forge ahead.  It took almost one half hour to get this far.  I will visit all if I can and comment if all works out---Thanks for being patient.

Here are some new babies from the ranch

This is how green it is here at our  or Bob's place---Obscene green I say but love it

Wynken and Blynken and Nod one night
Sailed off on a wooden shoe
Sailed down a river of crystal light
Into a sea of dew

I like these little sailboats sailing through the air and for some reason it reminded me the the poem

The Family Friend

This guy has been my garden buddy for many many years---from one house to another.  He was a gift from one of my daughters and he has always been lurking around my garden.

This past Spring he was seen gobbling up some crocus
And then the weeds tried to overtake him
But he just kept on gobbling
Yum Yum~~~~isn't he cute

Heritage Barn

This barn built in 1900 is called the Edler Barn after the first settlers
It was originally used as a dairy barn. The barn is well situated on the land as it is slightly higher than the adjacent field and the cooling breezes blow through it in the summer, yet the worst of the winter storms are blocked. At some point the horizontal braces overhead were cut off to make room for a pulley, and cement was poured on the two sides and half of the main floor area of the barn. The vertical support beams were hand-adzed. The barn was in danger of collapse and has been shored up. Plans are in place to secure the barn.
