Mushroom hunting and other signs of Fall

These lovely Golden Chanterelles 9Cantharellus cibarius) were waiting in the woods for someone (us) to come along and pick them.  We were shown the place by someone who knows the woods well and knows all the secret hiding places.  I posted a picture of the woods but blogger seemed to have misplaced it.  Had these for dinner along with fresh caught silver Salmon, salad (fresh from the garden)  Yummy dinner.
The trees are just starting to turn fall colors.
Apples are ripening.  Now there will be fresh applesauce, pies, apple crisp---oh I could go on and on.

Where have all the farmers gone

This barn is empty now.  Everyone left last Spring and it has been empty all summer.
The house pictured here goes with the barn and is also empty.  It all looks so sad.  No crops in this year.

Mt. Baker and wild Blueberries

We found the wild Blueberry ( Cascade Blueberry vaccinium deliciossum)
A path across a meadow and when we went around the corner there in front of our faces was THE MOUNTAIN---and blogger forgot to put it in.  Not me!!! I'll put it on my day4plusday4plus blog you can access by clicking on the picture in the left hand corner.
Here I am walking across the snow.  YAY!!
 That she is.
This long shaft is a moraine--which is  rubble left behind after a glacier.
Up close and personal.

So this was part of our hike up to Mt. Baker--actually I took 106 pictures. And Bob took 63 and he also is in this last picture.

Hoot hoot!!

We think this is a Spotted Owl although it also resembles a Barred owl.  Both live in this area and Barred Owls are beginning to take over the Spotted Owls territory.  They even cross breed so identification is hard.  Any guesses?
This was taken in the back yard on the fence post.

Added note:  We concede ----A Barred Owl it is!       Thanks!

Wild Bull Barn

The barn has a small arena and a few years ago every Friday and Saturday they put on a Bull riding event and Bull riding classes.  It was a lot of fun to watch and cheer the boys and the bulls.  The barn and arena is still here but no more rodeo.......for now anyway.
I took this through the windshield as I was just driving out from Stanwood.
