This is Jewel and I seem to have caught her mid-chew. Jewel is a Quarter Horse used for Team Penning and Barrel Racing and trail riding too.

Yesterday

When I was out feeding the horses yesterday I thought how pretty the pond looked in the snow. The little waterfall was looking good and the trees were all snowy but the reflections in the glassy water were so nice. I took a lot of pictures and when I saw this one I think I was amazed.Yesterdays pic I took at 5:39 and this one at 7:04 and then it snowed the rest of the day and we got about 8 inches of the white stuff. By late afternoon it started melting and then it snowed all night again. We are inching closer to April and I say SCAT!!!

Hey, isn't it Spring?

Woke up this morning to a winter wonderland. It is beautiful BUT........
It has been snowing off and on for the past 3 days but just wet Western Washington sloppy stuff, but over night it became the really nice crunchy stuff. Well nice for winter--not spring. I will have to down to the Valley and check out the tulips. The Tulip Festival is just starting and the tulips are going to say "uh-uh not me--I'm not going to bloom in this stuff". Is this almost April?

I am curious as to what type of cloud this is. It was very weird looking but no strange weather followed. It was smooth and swirled and very puffed.

Of course I always have to add Mt. Rainier from time to time. I am so blessed to have this view from my house.

Kylee's school bus has didn't show up yesterday, so I took her to school and this is the sky color that morning. This is looking east into the Cascade Mts. To the right out of the picture is Pilchuck so I think this is Whitehorse. This was taken at 7:21 AM--March 25th

The Valley in Bloom

Skagit Valley is blooming gold. The fields of Daffodils are all blooming now and next will be the many colors of Tulips. There are two main growers here. Roozengaard (the Washington bulb Co. the largest in the nation) and De Goede (Tulip Town). The Tulip Festival is the whole month of April. Come on out for a visit.

And Bingo is his name-O. This is my pup Bingo . He is 9 monthes old and bigger than I thought he would get. He loves playing in the pond and getting all muddy. He is an American Staffie mix. Sweet dog. MB

After snow on Friday, yesterday was a nice Spring day. My daughter came out with the two little g-boys. They helped clean the garage and then we had a little picnic. Where to go was the question. We went to the the "sports" park in Stanwood. there was a soccor game going on so we ambled over to the little Skate Area. Of course the boys didn't bring their skate boards but others showed up with theirs--a lot of sharing going on---. One OLDER boy showed up to show off and the little one sat and watched. Are you 'Tony Hawk"? Hahaha.

Spring Snow

Yesterday I got up at around 5:30 AM and the ground was covered with this strange white stuff. Then it rained and mostly went away. At 7ish it all started again and it just poured snow for about an hour. I took some pictures because by 11:30 it was all gone. We don't get much snow out here and it never stays too long. I live in the foothills not right in Stanwood. Stanwood's altitude is 5ft. I live at almost 1000 ft.

Heron Heart Reflections

My daughter Richelle and I went to Langley on Whidbey Island to visit my mother-her grandmother. We had a very nice time and went into the small town and visited some shops. While we were there someone said the whales were out in the water. Langley in on Saratoga Passage. So we went out to look and sure enough out by a boat were some whales. We couldn't see them too well be cause we were not close enough but we could see the plume of water when they sprayed. None breeched. So it was exciting. They come in closer to feed when the tide is out, and the tide was coming back in. It was low tide around 6:30 that morning. But just being there and seeing all the people excited was fun. This happens every year but I've never been there when the whales were. They are Grays I think. I don't think Orcas yet.

Acquisitions

I had thought about this for a long time. I never told anyone just let it ferment in my mind. Yesterday I went up to a place called Steel Dreams and found my self actually buying a Vespa Motor Scooter. It was pretty great. I DID IT!! Now I have to get a motorcycle endorsement and learn to ride the 'thing'. I guess I'd better name the little red beauty. Here's what she looks like.

Spring Harvest

Happy St. Paddy's Day everyone!!

Skagit Valley is well known for for it's Tulips and Tulip Festival (April1-30) but starting now they are harvesting Daffodils. first the cut buds and then the bulbs in the fall. the workers cut the stems with the bulbs and they are sold in local stores and shipped out also. In the next few weels the valley will be awash with the color of Tulips---come take pictures.

Peas, corn and cucumber will be planted next.

The road to Mothers

I know--one photo a day--but this is a day adventure right across from Stanwood

Yesterday I went to visit my Mother who lives on Whidbey Island. It is a very beautiful and narrow island lying out in Puget Sound. Being narrow you can see a water view from almost every angle. On the west side you can see out to the shipping lanes and the mainland of Washington and the Olympic mountains and on the east you can see Camano Island, Stanwood and the Mainland and the Cascade mountain range and south to Seattle. Mother lives in Langley which is an artist and tourist town of around 1000 year-round residents and on the south end of the island.

Finding The Mountain

One day a few weeks ago I took a series of pictures of where Mt. Rainier should be. As some of you already know I am lucky enough to have a grand view of The Mountain. I was hoping Rainier would pop out to I thought I would track it. I started at 8 in the morning and took photos at different intervals. Posted are only a few. In the bottom 2 pics you can see the top of Rainier, just to the left of center. If you click on the pic you can see better.

Wordless Wednesday Whinnies

Another sign of Spring

Yellow skunk Cabbage. When you see this growing in the ditches or in the damp woods you really do realize that spring indeed is here. I took this yesterday. It will continue to grow and the flower will get much taller and the green leaves will get huge. The leaves were supposedly used by Native Americans to wrap food in for cooking. Similar to wrapping hamburger in cabbage leaves. The yellow flower smells like a skunk when disturbed.

A birding I went

Took a closeby road trip looking for birds and found these guys at Ala Spit enjoying the water and nice weather. They were a pleasure to watch.

Non-breeding Sanderling (Caladris alba) so pretty and fun to watch.

Black Turnstone (Arenaria melanocephala) so interesting.

They were together right at the waters edge.

Noah's Ark

This is the 'Children's Church', shaped like Noah's Ark, belonging to a Church called 'His Place' with an easy chair on the top. Instead of a cross I guess.

Roadside Turkey

Coming home from the store yesterday afternoon I saw some chickens out on the road. I live in a rural area so really no big deal. But then this turkey ran out in the road and just stood there making the most melodic noises. I think it is a hen. I stopped and she moved to the side of the road just yodelling away.

Sentinal of Spring

I have been hearing the Kildeer's (Charadrius vociferus) strident dee dee dee for awhile now but yesterday I got a pic of one. Even though they are residents here I don't hear or see them until Spring, running crazily around the pastures or in an open field by the water. I finally got a fair close-up of a smaller bird.

We have lots of rocky beaches around here. No beautiful sand like on the ocean coast. But lovely rocks. Good for skipping and just being beautiful. The bay is saltwater and will eventually make it out to the ocean.
