Winter Visitors

Skagit Valley is winter home for many different birds.  Some of these great birds are 1--Bald eagles although we have many year round residents. 2--Trumpeter Swans and 3.--Snow Geese.  they start showing up in the Fall around October.  The swans and Snow geese come from Siberia and Wrangle Island and the eagles from the  North too.

Snow Geese flying

Snow Geese filling up the field and I liked their reflection.  The estimated total count this year is 100,00 geese
This one looks like they are staring at me as I am taking their picture---I guess they are.  and for some reason I cannot enlarge this one.

This one cracks me up.  That one in front looks like he/she is squatting in a hole peeking out.

Trumpeter Swans winging their way away.  Going East actually
They just wander around--munching on grass and stuff.  They really like grazing in potato fields

And Eagle on a power pole
Here is a tree full of Eagles and a nest.  The most Eagles I counted in this tree was 47 but that was a few years back.

Across the Valley

Well I am back for awhile----who knows.  No rain but stormy clouds

These shots were taken today all within about 20 minutes or less.

Across the Valley  (Skagit Valley)

Packed with Snow Geese---Probably 50,000--very noisy too
Our little Fir/Conway Church--usually Mt. Baker is overshadowing the area but the clouds say --no peeking.

Signs

Sprague is a sweet little town in Eastern Washington.  It was platted in 1880 and today has around 450 citizens.  And here are a couple of neat sights to see.

Moving on

Christmas has come and gone and next for me is the Valentine Swap.  I have been doing this swap with the same group--plus and minus.  And then Spring and growing in the greenhouse and watching the Tulips coming up.

Creating cards are fun and this swap is about making cards like we did as kids and mine really look like a kid did them.
Tulips coming up in the front bed
Aren't they pretty

It is always nice to seem some color in the garden in winter.  Here's what I see

My Hellebores are blooming wildly.  My Pink Frost is budded up and ready to bloom

Pussy Willows are popping up everywhere and my Primroses are blooming too---oops I forgot their picture

Today's Sky...1/14/2021

It was a pretty day today.  I planted a few bulbs but that was about it.  Just being lazy.  Lots of blue sky and bumpy clouds and a special surprise.

Looking East

And then turning ever so slightly to the right I see the sun trying----and when it got higher then we had a sunny day.  Well patches of clouds around too
And surprise surprise---Look!  Pussy Willows are out.  YAY!!

Look Up

I was in Burlington getting new tabs for my van when I noticed this neat little place right across the road.  Peak Roofing and then I looked up at the peak of the roof.  Cool huh

Playing around

I have so much time on my hands these day.  No little road trips to take pictures.

So I did a little playing around with just one existing photo.

Nooksack River Eagles.

In early winter usually November to January Eagles come to the rivers to feast on the Salmon trying to return home to spawn.  The Circle of Life.       We got up to the Nooksack River, where the North Fork meets the South fork to try to see the Eagles.  Somedays we see many and some days none.  It's a catch 'em if you can type of thing.  But fun anyway.  We didn't see too many this year.

These were all taken in December

Just stylized for fun.  Eagle with Salmon
This shot was taken by Cole Rader----Excellent huh!

Freeway Sky

So I had an appointment in Smokey Point and as I was traveling south on the freeway I thought the sky looked kinda neat.  I took several pictures and now you get to see them.

I get on the Freeway in Stanwood and off I go----

I just thought the sky was oddly colored

The sun tried to show itself through the cover
And just over this hill is my appointment--bye bye

Sign of the Times

This sign is just down the road from my place.  Several years ago the fellow who owned this property was killed in a tractor accident.  Eventually his family sold the property.  It has sat empty for a few years and now this sign appeared.

Several houses are going up---on spec I suppose

The Zoo in the Valley

Most of the whole Skagit Valley is Farmland and while farm animals are neat to see---how many cows can one look at-----I found a whole 'nother herd.

All made out of wood--driftwood and found wood.

Keeping busy
