Apples and Sunflowers

We picked the Johnathan Apples and had to cut down some of the sunflowers because of a big windstorm that blew a lot of them over.
We had lots of different varieties of  Sunflowers

Lots of large and small apples
I peeled a bunch and made Applesauce.  Maybe some apple pies tomorrow.  I love applesauce
This guy and others were taller than the house

Center of the Universe~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Monday Murals

In the Little town of Concrete Wa. is this great mural.  It used to be the Police Dept. but they have moved now.  I love it.  Concrete is great little town population about 750 year round but it is a great base for going to the North Cascades.  Super little Mountain town.

Little Apple Tree Shadows

Early morning summer shadows.  The deer keep the Apple trees trimmed up and we try to harvest the Apples before the birds do.   We usually manage.  Anyone for Applesause and Apple Pie?

More Red Top.....

I took so many pictures but you don't want to see them ALL.  So here are the last of Red Top..,,

This little abandoned cabin was the only structure we saw.
Bob digging for million dollar rocks
A Pacific Fritallary on Blue Astor.  These Butterflies were everywhere----well at least where the flowers were.
 Some type of Coneflower (echinacea)
 Small Indian Paintbrush
Dead snag with perfect hole at top
I just liked this lonesome tree.  Up in the rockfields where few trees grow.

I learned something..........

Agate hunting at the beach is way easier than in the Mountains.........
We took a ride over the Cascades to Eastern Washington to go rockhunting at Red Top Mountain--about 180 miles away.
I got new hiking boots before my knee surgery last year and now would be a good test for them.

 Forest service road 9738
 View  part way up
 More view
 The lookout at Red Top
Mount Rainier from Red Top.  We are now about 5000ft (1524 meters I think) Rainier is over 14000ft.
 View from the rockfields
See the fire lookout--right hand tippy top. --we hiked around it
This is what the rock hunting area looks like
Somebody was digging here---I tried too.  We carried with us some digging tools
 More view
I did find lots of rock with shell fossils.  Can you imagine sea shells way up here.  Think what was happening to our Earth to cause this.
We did bring some rocks home.  We'll see what they are.

That's it for today.  Maybe more later.  Oh and the boots worked out excellent.

Stanwood Barn for Barn Charm

This barn is in Stanwood across from the fairgrounds.   The pasture is the parking area for the fair.
See the horses.
I love this picture.  It is in the valley just south of the fairgrounds.

Random shot while fixing fence

This is Bingo he heads up security.  He's a watcher.
This is the Sidewalk Superintendent.  He is quite helpful  "Wanna hammer?"
Check out his feet.  He could bat you around.  Twopaw Roopaw  Dennis is his name
This is an Alder Borer.  We don't have many Alder trees here but at Bob's house he (Bob) is chopping them down for firewood.  Yay!!
It was a beautiful day.  Close to 80 with the blue sky full of all kinds of clouds.
The pond was full of shadows and reflections although the water level is waay down.
So there you are.  I am the helper, the go-fer, the holder of boards but in the meantime I am the picture taker.  MB

Bob did it again

Bob is so great.  Tell him what you need and he will make it out of materials he has around the shop.  Pretty neat.
I need to exercise my left knee so it will bend properly and I do want to ride my bike all over the place.   So he made this stand for the rear bike wheel to be off the ground.
Now I can peddle away.  Ouch Ouch Ouch!!!  Not quite 90degrees and the knee should be at 110.  I'll get there.
AND I am getting better.  Now I have to remember to do it consistently.  LOL
BTW:  We are going hiking and agate hunting on Tuesday--pictures at 11.  haha
