Throwback Thursday

A picture of me in the 4th grade.  I was extremely shy and everyone was always trying to crack that shell.  Here I am trying out for queen of the Junior Rose festival in Portland Oregon.  I remained a princess but rode on a float in the parade.
My Mother made this dress. It is brown dotted swiss with white trim.

Valley Barns

This barn was down a very long dead end road.  The home it was with was built in 1905 so I imagine this barn was from that era also.  I like the long row of windows and the large metal cupolas

Lunch Break

The deer seem to love our Apple trees.  We a lots of trees for them to munch on and clean up under the trees so we don't really mind.  But when they munch my tomatoes is when i draw the line-----

 Apples on the ground
Oh no!  I'd better get out of here
There were a bunch of Cedar Waxwings in the far birch tree and this is the best I could do at long distance

Signs

Since we don't go to restaurants very often and most are not opened even if we wanted to but there is a neat drive-in like back in the good old days-where we go to grab a hamburger and milkshake.
We did that today

 It's kinda fun and different.

A little logging

Washington was at one time a huge logging area.  Lots of timber left and the tree farm owners now know to judicially log and then replant.  We live on a 15,000 acre working tree farm.  But first growth timber was huge and we won't see the likes of that again.
I went to the Museum in Arlington,Wa. today it wasn't open but these artifacts are outside so I do have photos.
I have read that when the logger cleared Camano Island first they rowed over to where Stanwood is today and the trees were so thick they couldn't move inland until a road was cut through---now it's all farm land
This log was cut in 1952 and shows a timeline of the trees life
And this is a tree stump made into a home.  The roof might have looks different long ago .  Stumps were homes for many people
Look at the size of this one--WOW!

 More wow stuff
The last 3 pics are from a display near the museum
