More Birds

Took a little ride to Fir Island just a few miles from my house in the skagit Valley. the Snow Geese winter over in the valley as do Eagles and many other birds.

Fir Island is bounded by North and South Forks of the Skagit River and Skagit Bay of Puget Sound in the southwestern corner of Skagit County, Washington. Triangular in outline, 5.3 miles east–west by 6.5 miles north–south with an area of nearly 9,900 acres of farm land. . The island is connected by bridge to the village of Conway, located on the east shore of the South Fork of the Skagit River. A second bridge, across the North Fork of the Skagit River, leads to La Conner, 3.7 miles northwest, the nearest town.

A major component of the Skagit River Delta, the island is an important habitat for wildlife. Migrating from the northern portion of Wrangel Island in Russia, 90,000 to 110,000Snow Geese spend the winter on the Skagit River Delta.

They are very interesting to visit and drive right up to. they are very noisy. they stay from October to March or April and then fly back to the Arctic tundra to breed and live for the summer.

I ditto la Vache - noisy and messy! I hope you were wearing a hat when you took these photos!

Which are excellent...you captured well the sense of mass as these critters gather together ...

And no, we don't play tennis, although we have played "at it" in the past...but, there are several very nice courts here, so we may give it a try again.

Or, you could come down and give us some lessons!

I have the same doubt of Louis and Jacob, but your first picture is wonderful and spectacular. I imagine the noise... Great set of photos!

They certainly are beautiful, but I guess they aren't much different from the geese around here with their noisiness and messiness! These are wonderful pictures. I always enjoy seeing pictures of birds!

The original "snow-birds" -:)

An amazing sight to see and hear. Haven't visited yet this year, but spent a fun afternoon up there about this time last year.

See so many Snow Geese in one place is amazing, and I'll bet a bit noisy. Great captures MB.

Also like the firehouse. I was a volunteer firefighter in Skamania County WA way back when.

I bet theres no fish left in there when they leave.
