Sundown over......................

............over the collapsed Mount Vernon Interstate 5 bridge.

The pictures are out of order but I didn't plan it that way.  The bridge went down around 7PM and 2 vehicles went in the Skagit river.  Minor to slight injuries--no fatalities--.  The bridge girders was hit by an oversize vehicle and kaboom down she goes.  The first picture is south of the the area over I-5 the rest are the bridge itself.  Everybody is ok thank goodness.
Big news in little town.  We live 10 minutes or so south of the bridge.
My youngest heard it and saw it too.

It could have been a lot worse considering what happened a few years back in Minneapolis. This is what happens when politicians don't do their job - we've got tons of bridges that are unsafe at the moment because nobody has seen fit to repair them. But they can spend huge sums to buy jet fighters that the military doesn't even want! Crazy!

My first thought when I heard Skagit River was you and yours. Glad to know all is well.

Stay safe!

Wow! I've been over that bridge a ton of times on my way to and from Anacortes! Unbelievable that so few cars were on it at that moment. The last shot looks like a piece of abstract art!

Sure glad nobody was hurt. Could put a crimp in traffic for a while. At least the sunset was pretty.

Ka-boom! I heard it made quite a noise. It's amazing that there were no serious injuries or fatalities. Just deathly slow traffic now.

It's amazing that no one was seriously hurt or killed in this bridge collapse. The sky in your first photo is beautiful.

Scary.. That is too close for comfort --for sure! I'm glad no more people were killed. It could have been horrible.

Hope you have a great weekend. Happy Memorial Day --and don't forget to thank God for our service men and women who do/did so much for us to keep us safe.

Hugs,
Betsy

Big news on the Olympic Peninsula, too! So glad no one was killed - a miracle considering how much traffic goes over it each day. (Where is all that traffic going to go now??) Thanks for the firsthand shots!
