Baker River Bridge

State Route 20 spanning the Baker River - City of Concrete, Skagit County
Built 1917

The bridge, the only link between the two halves of the city of Concrete, is an early example of a reinforced-concrete open spandrel arch and was reputedly one of the longest single-span concrete structures in the West when built. The bridge is ornamented in a classical style.

There is a city called Concrete with a (very nice) concrete bridge in the middle...

Now why would a city be called Concrete? This is a lovely bridge MB.

Now that is what I call a bridge - and a very handsome one too. Lovely scenic shot.

The bridge I posted looks like your as just as old. may be that's was the fashion then. My bridge doesn't cross a river, just a gully.

Hmmm... yes, I too ponder the name Concrete for a town. And yet it had a first, built in 1917. I like your Midas touch sky too!

It looks to be in very good shape so must have been very well designed and built.

Another gorgeous bridge, Mary Bet. I love looking at bridges ---so this is a great meme... Bridges bring people together --and that is a good thing!!!!!

Have a marvelous Sunday.

I saw this last winter when I drove to Concrete. It's a cool bridge and Concrete is such an interesting little town. The color of the water in the river is gorgeous!

I do believe concrete is the main product of the town of Concrete. It is an interesting little town with a great Saturday market.

Nice bridge picture!

It pretty high & I see your trees are already turning colors there - The temp just dipped below 90 here this past week, so it'll start changing here before long.

What a graceful bridge. Amazing what could be built during the first world war!

A good-looking bridge - like the ornamental style - we don't have nice-looking bridges like this one.

This looks like a beautiful place to be a bridge!

Not only the bridge is lovely but also the trees literally by the water and its colour.

PS. Baker + Cement = Concrete. It doesn't ooze with creativity, but hey, why not? :-)

The color of the water is amazing. Love that we can see all the bridge.

«Louis» would never guess that this bridge was built in 1917! It looks much newer.

Your Betty Boop cowgirl in your profile is great!
