The Pacific Staghorn Sculpin (Leptocottus armatus) is a common sculpin found in shallow coastal waters along the Pacific coast from Alaska to Baja California. The Pacific Staghorn Sculpin has spined horns shaped much like deer antlers on its gill covers, the antlers/horns can be moved slightly for defensive measures.
After much discussion The fish was released---to be caught again another day.

Looks like dinner is saved!
That is the nice thing about fishing. You have a choice of taking it to eat or releasing it. I am glad it was released to live again.
Thanks for visiting my blog Pick a Peck of Pixels and commenting on the Flat Ear
Very pretty summery sky, but the fish has a face only its mother could love!
Oh I'm so glad he caught a fish... Kids love fishing ---and if they catch ANYTHING, they are thrilled... I'm happy for him!!!!
We're off to Hendersonville today to check on G's parents. Have a great day.
Hugs,

A nice blue sky to fish under. But what a funny looking fish. Glad it was released to swim another day.
Good for him and what an interesting looking fish!
Ugly fish,neat kid,beautiful sky
How much fun is that. Looks a bit like what we call a puffer fish down here. I'm glad you let him go...
You don't eat those, do you?
What a wonderful place for kids to grow up in...
So that's what a blue sky looks like. That fish would go along with a bag of chips here. Lucky for him I'm a veggie.
what an odd looking fish! Thanks for the post, I learned something today!
Isn't is great? As a kid you can be proud of a fish that size. Good for him.
Clapping hands!
YaY! Very good!
Cute kid, ugly fish LOL but delighted it was released. :)
Congratulations on the catch and release. I'm happy to think it's swimming again! I love those bizarre-looking unusual fish. I didn't know you could pick up a sculpin without painful stings, though.
I would have been afraid to handle that thing!
Interesting shaped fish. Your grandson, I'm guessing? Nice that a little education took place. Good choice!
Congratulations to the young fisherman. It looks like a very successful day.
Catch and release seems like the right thing to do. Besides your camera captured the proof that he caught it. ;-)
