My Koi Pond

These are some of my Koi. You might want to click on the picture to see them better. This is a natural pond fed by a small creek and there is a waterfall for the overflow. The creek then goes underground under my pastures and becomes a creek again in the woods across the road.
I have over 20 Koi of this size and they have been in the pond for many years. The pond is real low now because it has been so hot and dry. No rain--very unusual here. They come swimming by when I whistle for them. The pond is very natural and brimming with pond life so I seldom feed the fish and they seem to be doing ok on whatever they find.

Oh, aren't they pretty! I love it that they come when you whistle for them! Never heard of fish doing that! Do they let you pet them too? Or is that asking too much of them? LOL! - Koi seem to live a really long time. I hope you will have many more years to enjoy them!

That's amazing! They come when you whistle? Good grief. We'll call you the fish whisperer!!! ;-)

Have a wonderful day, MB.

My first house had a small Koi pond. I never could get them to do any tricks.

Those are some big fish. How very cool to have a natural pond in your yard. Funny that they'll come to your whistle. Nice captures.

How do you do it? I'd be afraid of marauding raccoons.

I can get the 3 goldfish in the bowl to come to me. Does that count? Actually, I don't know about where you live, but down here the Blue Heron fly right into the yards and steal the koi right out of the ponds. I hope that doesn't happen to your little buddies.

Oh MB how gorgeous! Our neighbor has a pond built just for them. They had four for a few years. Then a preditor came through the night and the Koi vanished. They are a very expensive species. Yours are outstanding.

I wish I could send you some of our rain to fill up your pond. How interesting that the fish come to you even though you don't feed them. I'm glad you don't have any wildlife there that want to make them their dinner.

Very pretty there at your pond. My parents feed their fish & when they walk out to the ponds, the fish always come to the side where they are. Who said fish were dumb? hehehe

They used to have some albino catfish, but they're not around anymore.
