Agate hunting at the beach is way easier than in the Mountains.........
We took a ride over the Cascades to Eastern Washington to go rockhunting at Red Top Mountain--about 180 miles away.
I got new hiking boots before my knee surgery last year and now would be a good test for them.

Mount Rainier from Red Top. We are now about 5000ft (1524 meters I think) Rainier is over 14000ft.
View from the rockfields
See the fire lookout--right hand tippy top. --we hiked around it
This is what the rock hunting area looks like
Somebody was digging here---I tried too. We carried with us some digging tools

I did find lots of rock with shell fossils. Can you imagine sea shells way up here. Think what was happening to our Earth to cause this.
We did bring some rocks home. We'll see what they are.
That's it for today. Maybe more later. Oh and the boots worked out excellent.

such pretty territory!
I always wondered about the boots. Glad to hear they worked well. Maybe next time, though, you ought to go to the beach. Make a campfire, roast some marshmallows, drink a few beers and look for search for rock from the vantage point of your chairs...
You were very calm and diplomatic in your comments today. Are you OK? Heh, heh!
And what about the knee?
I am incredibly jealous of you for that view of Rainier.
Oh Wow--wow-wow.... Congrats for being able to hike again... Hooray!!!! And that hike is awesome. You know me!!! I love the mountains... Wow---5000 feet up???? Bet it was chilly....
Interesting about the rocks.... Sea shells huh???? Neat... Must have been what was there umpteen years ago!
I'm excited about this post.... Wish we were there to go with you two.
Hugs,
Betsy
I'm glad your hiking boots worked out so well. This looks like a great hike -- the rocks you found were a nice bonus. Thanks for taking us along with you. The views are spectacular.
How amazing to to see these fossil shells up there! Really drives home the incredible change the planet's gone through. Looks like your knee held up OK too (injured knees myself, I know it's not fun).
Wow, what glorious views!
Hey, the mountain came out for you. Congrats.
Looks like it was a glorious day for a hike. How was the knee? Did you find the million dollar rock? Oh yea, you wouldn't tell me even if you did! Isnt it amazing you can see mt rainier from eastern wa? You can also see it at Rye Grass! That's along ways away!
I agree about agate hunting at the beach being easier than in the mountains. But then those views are to die for. Hope you can break a few out of the rocks.
I'm so glad to hear you are back in boots and hiking again. And I agree, rock hunting is easier at the beach!
Beautiful place, wonderful photos:) Greetings
Wow just wow. I would have brought rocks home too. Wonderful shots. B
