This is a bird we call our Blue Jay is actually a Stellar Jay (cyanocitta stelleri)
Very noisy bird and can mimic other birds and even meow like a cat. Kind of a bully bird around feeders. They hog everything.
They are a large bird--12" and one of the most intelligent birds around.

This is the 'bluest' blue jay I've ever seen. I'm sorry to hear they are such bullies, but you got some wonderful pictures.
Quite a beautiful bird. Have only seen one of these once, in the Pacific Northwest. They definitely catch one's eye.

such a handsome bird! one i've never seen in person!
I think the Stellar Jays are gorgeous --much prettier than our Blue Jays. Ours make alot of noise--but don't seem to be bullies around the feeders. In fact, they do a good job (along with the crows) of keeping the hawks AWAY from our little birds.
Hugs,
Betsy
The Stellar Jay is a pretty bird.Great shots!
Very nice photos. I would love to see a Steller's Jay one day, they are such cool birds!
This is a bit different than our bluejays in terms of looks but it acts the same - as you said, like a bully!
You got some nice shots of the critter, though.
Hi again, MB. To answer your question about the "stairs to nowhere" - I'd guess they are what's left of an older structure on the property, although I'm not sure why they would do that! People do some strange things. That's another reason to say "Don't pet my horses!"
Lovely! I think I saw one like that once but I didn't know what it was!
They are a gorgeous shade of blue!
what a gorgeous bird. awesome! ( :
These are great birds - but almost anything called a jay tends to throw its weight about!
Cheers and thanks for linking to WBW.

I love to see that flash of blue in the garden. They are beauties, even if they are a bit beastly.
We have a jay that's been faithful to Mom's feeder for over a year. When he arrives, all the little bird head for the sky. - Margy
Like all Jays behavior-wise, but more beautiful than most!
