New babies and Eagle nest update

Oh this poor Mama says 'Take me now before I blow up'. So now there are 3 babies. The baby laying dow would not get up--birthing is so tiring. But the other guy was standing right away. I even saw the Eagles fighting over the placenta--I did take pics but will keep them to myself. MB






I talked to a Mr. Garrett from the wildlife department and he said the Eagle Nest blew down. He said he was surprised as I was. In fact he was taking visitors out to see it and--oops--it was gone. But we did have 2 very windy days and he said sometimes that just happens.
This pic is the nest and two young ones I took last June. I will miss seeing the raptors and the nest, I know the adults will find or make another. The nests are huge too. MB

Old schoolhouse for sepia scenes

This is the Roario Schoolhouse. Opened in 1891 and stayed open until 1957 when it consolidated with the Anacortes School district. Deeded to the Skagit County Historical society in 1970 and cared for by volunteers. And well cared for it is.

I love the boy and girl outhouses parked in the woods right next to the school. It reminds me of Little House on the Prairie only on the woods.

Roadtrip!!!!!!

Sunday my friend and I decided it was time to hit the North Cascades National Park. It's about 75-80 miles from my house. The pass over the mountains there is still closed for the Winter but one can still get to the good stuff. It is one of the least visited national parks and is a very rugged and beautiful area. Half of all the glaciers in the lower 48 states are here. Steep mountains and onshore weather systems from the Pacific Ocean influence a wide range of climate conditions in the North Cascades. One of the snowiest places on earth, the westside mountains collect more snow than melts each year (forming glaciers). On the east side of the mountains, conditions are much dryer.

I took over 100 pictures and also walked my shoes off. But I had a great time. On the way down we stopped at the town of Marblemount and had a buffalo burger. Tasty.
Was home by 6pm so it was a nice day trip. MB

South Fork Skagit River Bridge at Conway

This is the bridge over the South Fork of the Skagit River at Conway. It takes you to Fir Island.

Two pictures were taken during a small winter flooding---lotsa rain causes high water---it goes down in a few days. One picture I took standing under the bridge.

Fir Island is where I see the Snow Geese. Small island caused by a fork in the Skagit River. About a mile or so from the S. bridge is the North Fork bridge. MB

Eagle nest---gone

A while back I showed you pictures of several Eagle nests not far from my home. I thought I would go check them out and I was shocked to find one totally gone. Well the tree was still standing but the nest is gone. It is in a wild life viewing area so I am going to call the Fish and Game people and see if they know what happened. We have had a few days of high winds but that nest has withstood all kinds of weather. I'll let you know what happens.

Strange clouds~~~~~~Sky watch

I saw these unusual clouds while I was shopping in downtown Marysville Wa. It was evening, sunset time.
Please excuse the lines and house tops but I had to capture the clouds. These clouds were in the Eastern sky--a reflection of the sunset. The hills behind were pink. I didn't see it at first but what do they look like to you?
