Kwel Hoy' "We Draw the line"

Wednesday My friend Deena from South Dakota and I took a little road trip up to the Lummi Nation Reservation
The sky image is looking across Lummi Bay to Lummi Island.  There is a ferry that can take one across the bay to the island.
It was great watching the canoes also.

.  They were having a 'coal protest' march along with 'Let's Protect Mother earth walk'.
Now it is not only the Lummi’s sacred site at Cherry Point that needs hope and protection, but also tribal lands and communities across the nation, from the Powder River Basin to the coast. If built, the Gateway Pacific Terminal at Cherry Point would be the largest coal export facility in North America. Coal from the mines in the Powder River Basin would be sent by rail through Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington, along the Columbia River Gorge, and up the coast of the Puget Sound. Bulk cargo carriers would ship the coal through the Salish Sea to China.

I think I might protest with them.

Is that paddle boat what I think it is?

What a gorgeous place. I've never heard of the Lummi Nation--but they do live in a beautiful area.

Sounds like you did have a great time with your friend.
Hugs,
Betsy

Transporting fuel across First Nation's lands has become a HOT issue here in Canada. I fer that greed will win.

A beautiful area. As EG says, it's become a big issue here. Unfortunately our Prime Minister is hellbent on it, and doesn't give a damn about the long term consequences of his actions.

I've not heard of Lummi Island but it certainly is a gorgeous area! I wondered about the coal sign and I'm glad to hear about the protest. We've soon got to live without coal! China, especially. Some cities there are so polluted they are actually shipping in fresh air from the mountains for people to breathe!

Let the land, and sky, be free from this coal possibility. Nice to see the canoes.

Wonderful photos. Lummi Peninsula is one of our favorite spots to visit. Not only do the lands need protecting from big business and coal - but from predators that don't obey signs. The beaches on Lummi Peninsula are open only to tribal members and yet we have seen pictures by people we know - standing on the beaches, taking pictures and crowing about defiling the beaches - sometimes it makes a person wonder.

Love the canoe shot!
