A Perfect Summer Day~~~~~~~~~~~Oso Memorial

Saturday was the first day of summer and we planned an outing.
So many things happening:
Kylee was riding in the Darrington Rodeo (40 miles from home) and to get there we drove on the newly opened Hwy 530 between Arlington and Darrington.  Closed because of the tragic Oso Slide since March.
The new road.  Just imagine the area thick with trees and houses and cabins tucked in among them and a river flowing through.
 Gone--buried forever
The slide area is not going away---stark!
The rodeo grounds  The rodeo was also a Memorial to all that was lost in the Oso slide.
Crowning the new Rodeo Queen and Junior Princess
This young lady and child are riding a horse and leading another in memory of the Father and Grandfather lost in the slide.
Canadians were one of the first that said "We will be there we want to help"  Thank all who did!

Sobering to say the least, and the legacy of that will last a long time.

Seeing the scar reminds me of a slide in Alberta that destroyed part of a town a century ago. The signs are still there..

The power of Nature... The river is now buried?

It's good of them to have remembered, great shots of Kylee!

Talk to Bob about what?

Wow. All I can say is wow. The devastation to once familiar scenery so very different now. I am glad for the residents of Darrington that road is open again. Nice shots of Kylie and Macaronie. Was that the Skagit Rein Riders in pink I see in the background one of the shots?

Sad pictures of the slide town

Just devastation! Everything is buried forever? Even the river? Are they going to divert it?
How did Kylee do?
Looked like a beautiful day for a rodeo!

I hope no one plans to rebuild there!

Love the rodeo photos. How did Kylee do?

What a terrific post. The sadness created by the mudslide is unbearable. So many tears. Thus, it was great to see this tribute at the rodeo and nice to see Kylee do her part! Love that shot of the Sauk and Mt. Baker.

This post was beautiful and very sobering. The representation of the riderless horse with a hat on the horn was very touching. I cannot imagine how you can get over such a tragedy. The mountain shows the scares but not the human ones that go deep into the heart. Glad to see the pretty girl and her horse. Peace

Such devastation nature can bring but then it is also wonderful how people rally round and help. your photos tell a story, a good story today. As many bloggers are having problems with not receiving others post in their dashboard, I Hope you will enjoy my slide show yesterday of Rowallane Gardens and the video today. Birding For Pleasure Thanks for your comments on Saturday.

I imagine it's hard for everyone to drive on that newly built road among the scars of the slide. A lovely memorial to all those who died and the strength of the people of Oso. Gorgeous photo of Mt. Baker.

So glad to see the rodeo came off as planned, and as needed for that town so cut off, and still healing.
