Hiking through life

The fire Lookout towers are excellent places to stay. This one used to be manned by the Rangers and was fully rigged in case it was needed. Last winter some jerks found it (that had to ski in) and totally wrecked it and stole stuff. So all the fire looking equiptment was removed (the fire finder, maps, etc). Pretty sad.
Six years ago was The Biscuit Fire in the Kalmiopsis National forest and burned 500,000 acres and also a neighboring tower looked out call Snow Camp. It has since been rebuilt. I was down canoe-ing on the Chetco River (in the area) that year. It was kinda scary. The National forest also has the most northern stand of Redwood in the US. Very impressive and fun to hike in.

Finally

Well I did come back. I had a great time. It was rainy, windy, foggy, with some sun breaks---but even though I froze at time I did have lots of fun. It was rainy and foggy all the way down the Oregon Coast. The Pacific Ocean was wild and beautiful. the first night we stayed in a yurt at a state park.Driving up the mountain side from the ocean it was again rainy and foggy but halfway up we got above the clouds and it was SUNNY! Couldn't believe it. Here are some pictures of the trip to the tower and more later of some stuff.

Gone for awhile

I am going to be away for awhile.
This weekend--Off to a Rodeo in Oregon--Kylee riding, of course and then when everyone else goes home I am heading for southern Oregon and a fire Look out tower for awhile. There I will keep busy--read--hike--and hope the woods don't burn down. (Not to joke) Maybe on the way back I will stop and explore the Chetco River and the enjoy the Oregon beaches.
Another rodeo the following weekend and then then that all for rodeo until the spring. ADIOS!!

West coast Lady

I found this poor butterfly all laid out and ready for butterfly skies. Tattered and torn but still beautiful. I think it is a West Coast Lady (vanessa annabella). At first I thought it was a Ruddy Copper but now I think it is the West Coast Lady.
