I had to look up what it means - sadly unknown here! A good sign.

Hello,

I had to look up the meaning for no jakes. We have lots of loud trucks going up and down our street, but I do not hear the loud brakes. Happy October!
Enjoy your day and week ahead.

I had no idea what the "jakes" meant either, but looked it up :)

...a 'Jake' break (Jacobs' Engine Break) sure can be loud, but the beat a runaway truck. It's interesting from the comments how few know what a Jake is! Thanks Mary Beth for sharing, enjoy your week.

I see these signs here, too. The claim is that the Jake Brakes (engine brakes) on trucks make too much noise. The idiots in our government (from local to national) think less noise is more important than safety!
Hope you are having a great week!

So then it's not a 'no jakes, we're anti-Jake here' policy deriving from an awful person named Jake a century ago?

This term is new to me too. Had to look it up to find its meaning. :)

I guess my son is not welcome there. :-)

The sign I've seen is "No Jake Breaks" and "No Engine Breaking." There's another one too but I cannot remember it now.

That’s funny, so many of your commenters didn’t know what a Jake-brake is! Do you think it’s just a western thing? They must have trucks everywhere (but maybe not so many hills?). Funny ...seems like I’ve always known. AnywY, oil sign.
