Make hay

That hay will be worth a fortune this fall and winter. It was over $80.00 a roll this spring. With the increased cost of diesel and gasoline, the farmers are going to charge a lot more because it cost a lot more just to run tractors to harvest it.

A wonderful scene to me but sad in a way that it replaced perfectly good work horses and men with pitchforks who made hay in my day.

Mmmmm... I can almost smell the fresh cut hay -- a fragrance that embodies summer!

Fortunately the farmers got the hay in last week while the weather was HOT - it's raining all this week!

Beautiful shots, MB. I used to buy round bales for my horses, and was just able to get one in the back of my little pick up. I never paid more than $55, so it's been a few years. I did have one local grower that sold them for $35, but they must have been the ones the feed stores didn't want, because the poor quality wasn't worth the savings.

Compared to the way we made hay when I was a kid this looks like cheating. (LOL)

Judging from your weather reports, they'd better hurry up.
I really like the red tractor/green hay combination here.

Ditto on almost smelling it - it is so green so it's fresh.
The farmers here are harvesting their first cutting too.
There isn't as many of these scenes as there used to be.
Nice shot!

Oooh I can smell it from here - nothing so wonderful as fresh baled hay especially if it has a high clover content. Beautiful photos MB.

Prince would love to be there helping out. He loves being on a tractor. Peace

Did I miss this one this morning? Makes me want to sneeze, but love the tractors.

"Louis" noticed you had commented on the farm implements at Jim's Terril, Texas blog. "Louis" has an uncle living on a farm in the Texas Panhandle who collects antique farm implements. "Louis" will send him the link to your photo here and the link to Jim's implements photos.

Over at San Francisco Bay Daily Photo, we see Visions of Hell!

Re your comment at "Louis's" 'Visions of Hell' - those panels are not "Louis's" favorites, either. He much prefers your bucolic rolls of hay!

MB, don't know why, but I'm particularly partial to round bales. Somehow seem more aesthetically appealing to my eye. Wonder why some do round and others rectangular ... ? Difference in keeping properties?
