The backside of downtown. A few years ago the river rose to the back of the stores.
Debris coming down the river.
The river breeching low spots. The Skagit River and other local rivers are running a little high right now because of recent warm weather causing snow melt in the mountains. It's not real high, just fast and dirty. Up river--closer to the mountains gets hit first. This is the river at Mount Vernon, WA.

It does look a bit muddy. Winter run off is over here - no mountains. It has actually been a bit DRY. But it rained this weekend so farmers are smiling.
Boy, it looks like it was getting close.
Yikes! We have a river running through our town also, and it did overrun its banks last August. How badly (if at all?) were these businesses affected when your water levels rose?
Great shots of the river! Does it ever flood?
High, and muddy - yet that last picture is really pretty.
It was pretty bad a few years ago. It reached the bridge and the bridge was closed and it got in some buildings. Sand bag city. I forget how many feet over flood level it was. Up river the town of Hamilton was almost wiped out. I suppose I should have been prepared for questions. I'm checking. MB
It's always a bit scary during spring run-off if one lives close to a river. Sad the damage that can happen.
My daughter faced flooding this year in central BC for the first time but for a different reason - a huge piece of ice became jammed under the bridge totally cutting off the river flow -hence the flooding was horrendous and a lot of homes lost. It missed them by a few hundred yards.
Fabulous shots MB.
Great photos of the river. The people who own those stores must be getting nervous!

It sure looks like it could reach the buildings.
High, and muddy ... and he also floods?
Does this happen every year? I'd be nervous if I owned a riverside business.
Thanks for your comment on my blog, MB. I take that dang camera everywhere, and sometimes I need to remember to not live behind the lens! But it's hard to resist. :)
Interesting phenomenon! Never had to worry about snow melt here.
Uh-Oh. The Sequim river was running pretty high when I rode across it yesterday, too. That's the downside of lots of snow and then a heat wave. We'll keep our fingers crossed.
Glad you enjoyed the rally vicariously -:) Think you'll be ready to join us at the Hamster Run in Bellingham toward the end of July?
Kind of scary hu? Mother Nature goes her own way...
