This attractive plant has loose rosettes of light bluish green leaves and striking saucer-shaped blue flowers in summer. It is considered a challenge to grow by even the most experienced gardeners but is worth the effort. The amazing blue flower color is a traffic stopper. Best grown in partial shade in a sheltered location in cool, moist, well-drained soil. Deciduous. May be short-lived, particularly in sodden winter soils. Native to thickets in the Himalayan Mountains. Hardy to 0 degrees F. Papaveraceae
Ohhh...I discovered poppies a two summers ago and fell in love. That blue is terrific!! Oh, yes, school coming to an end is another happy!! I am SUCH a homebody, and this time of year with sports and such the house gets a wee bit out of control, so time off is much appriciated!!
We can't grow them here. Not enough like the Himalayas, I'm afraid. ;-) They don't like our hot, humid summers. Plus our winters go to minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
In Canada, they grow well in western British Columbia and on Quebec's Gaspe Peninsula.
A big WOW....what a beauty! Haven't seen or heard of a blue poppy. Excellent photo, MB, of such a gorgeous rarity. Again, thanks for your visits and comments over this way while we've been traveling. Much appreciated. Congrats to your June graduate as well!
Your fairy is called Columbine Goblindancer She is a bringer of riches and wealth. She lives in mushroom fields and quiet meadows. She is only seen when the bees swarm and the crickets chirrup. She wears lilac and purple like columbine flowers. She has gentle green wings like a butterfly.

Fantastic photographer, too!! You have it all going.
I asked you a question about the mares in one of my posts today.
It's such a pretty color. I saw some poppies beside the road yesterday but they were a reddish color.
Never seen a blue poppy so this is a wonderful image for me today.
Fantastic photo MB! Such a gorgeous blue.
I had one but the winters are too wet here and it died.

I love blue flowers and this one is a show stopper. How very beautiful. I may try to find some seeds to see if this farm girl can grow them. Peace.
