Winter Birds

Well some winter birds

There are bunches of House Finches and they brighten up the feeder area

I have been watching this nest for several years.  I once was a Red tailed Hawk nest but for the last 3 or 4 years nothing so I was surprised when I saw something and that turned out to be an Owl.  So I have been told that Great Horned Owls will use abandoned Red tail Hawk nests or actually steal them away.  Interesting.

The Valley is full of Trumpeter Swan wintering over coming from Northern Alaska
I tried to capture some loners
 with visiting Ducks
 Northern Pintail

Accept my invitation to link up with us birders at I'd Rathet B Birdin' at noon today (Texas time) ... your bird photos are amazing...I don't think I've ever seen a pintail on land!!

By the way, the blog for sharing birds is linked on my personal blog, Hootin' Anni's. (New linking tool is NOON on Saturdays)

Hello, Love the variety of birds in this post. I may be wrong but your house finch looks more like the Purple Finch. They have something that looks like a white line near their eyes that the House finches do not have. Awesome Owl sighting, great find. Love the swans and Pintail. Thanks so much for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend.

Oh what wonderful captures of the birds. That is so interesting about hawk nests and owls. Love seeing those little ears poking up! Fun!

Great photos. And good eyes to spot that owl in the nest.
