the white house is across the street from a whole slew of new homes and the barn (with horses) is only a fence away from more new homes. These new developments are near downtown Stanwood. East side. MB

How do you feel about sprawling urbanisation like that? Looks like the barn will be torn down in a few years to make way for more of the houses...
It's this way everywhere it seems. In Florida we call it "Paving over paradise"!
«Louis» has mixed feelings about this...but seems to be more of the view that this is encroachment...
Dont let they put them between your porsh and the MT!
Can't stop progress. It like cities have become fast moving donuts. Folks keep moving farther away from the center of things. I bet that white house and barn will be standing when those others need repair, that is if they are built as fast as the ones around here. Hope you had a good time on the Island. Peace
Wow! Those snow geese were incredible! Whoa!
I like this barn a lot. This scene of an older homestead surrounded by new houses is common even here in Iowa in the Des Moines suburbs.
Unfortunately what happens is that the assessed value of the property gets so high that the people who have the older home are forced to sell. Also, who wants to live in your home when it surrounded by all those new houses and all that goes with them?
I drive 35 minutes one way to work each day. The good side is that I am still far enough away from ubran sprawl I should be safe from it.
Take care.
MB, it is so beautiful there. I can see why more and more people want to come and settle in Stanwood but I wish we could reuse existing structures more effectively and integrate the new more organically.
Brattcat is so right...it's so beautiful, it draws more and more people. But I don't like the suburban look to new "development".
Awe --Progress!!! I hate it sometimes. Every time they built a new house up here in Fairfield Glade, they are taking down gorgeous trees and taking homes away from the deer and wildlife...
People that choose to live in the country had better own plenty of land around them --if they don't want things like what happened in Stanwood to happen to them. What a shame.
Hugs,
Betsy
Unfortunatelly I think the two words on the title always come together. This is the price we pay... Your photo sequence is great and says it all.
I'm not sure I would call this progress, although I guess it depends on which side of the fence your house is on. In the Midwest some states value working farms at a rate that keeps their property taxes from going so high that the owners are forced to sell. It seems to work fairly well.
Don't like that! I do like that little white house.

I agree with Nancy Jo. I like that house. I don't like more and more houses being built all over the place.
♥♥ Hugs ♥♥
I've always hated to see encroachment like that. For some reason I became very sensitive to it even as a small child walking to school. Strange how it bothers some and others don't mind. I like what brattcat said. Also (and this is not very popular to talk about) the Earth could use fewer people. We are mushrooming.
It's a pity, but if that's is encroachment you have to see what does happen here...
I know people have to have a place to live, but it breaks my heart to see houses go up everywhere....
