Bullock's Oriole

Bullock's Oriole (Loterus bulllockii) arrives here in May and is gone by August. Wintering in Mexico. Interesting fact: Bullocks are not Orioles at all but blackbirds. Naturalists gave them that name because they reminded them of The Golden Oriole of Europe.
I was stopped on the road by my house looking at all the new foals when this beauty swooped in front of me and landed on the fence right beside me. I wanted to roll down the window but didn't want to scare him away. So I took the picture through the side window and fash he was gone. Just a flash of gold. Very pretty. MB

We have a relative of the Oriole here. too. I forget the full name but they are few and great singers.

It's funny that I thought at first this was a yellow-headed blackbird - pretty close, I bet.

Lovely bird ... looks almost like he's perched between those wires atop the fence.

We spotted one of these in our Seattle yard just once. It was an exciting sighting.

Excellent shot out the window. Beautiful bird and how right you are not to hesitate or the moment would be lost.
